Hi, I’m Melanie
I’m Melanie, Registered dietitian and founder of Mindful Eating Matters.
I eat what I love and love what I eat.
I love to eat and make tasty and nutritious foods while enjoying treats in moderation.
I have overcome eating for procrastination and boredom with tools and strategies I teach in my programs. I am working on distraction techniques to overcome the habit of eating sweets after dinner!
Early on in my career, I noticed that many of clients that struggle with weight identified an underlying problem with eating for emotional or stress reasons.
In the first few appointments we implement what to eat, when and how…but then I realized we need to dig deeper. We need to find the root cause of their eating problem so that they can actually change their eating habits.
My clients are more successful when they realize their big “Why” of eating. We can then discuss options for behaviour change strategies so that they can actually change their eating!
My passion is to help you understand Why, what, when, where and how we eat matters.
I help men and women transform their relationship with food so that they can lose unwanted weight and feel comfortable in their clothes, without weight loss medications, dieting or giving up chocolate!
Home is where my heart is, nurturing three children with gardening, cooking, baking, Bible memorization and outdoor activities.
You may see me walking or cycling down the Peace country roads or swimming and skating with my children in the community. My favourite activities are mountain biking and wake surfing in the summer or snowmobiling in the winter with my husband and kids.
Credentials & Experience
I gleaned over 15 years of work experience and made community connections within Northern Health. In my roles as a clinical dietitian at Fort St. John hospital and Primary Care dietitian in the community, I gained valuable experience working with people to achieve their goals in healthy weight and managing chronic disease with real food solutions. My passion is to help you get to the root cause of your eating problems so that you can manage your weight and optimize your health. I love sharing nutrition tips and recipes for improving your gut, liver, heart and mental health.
As a member of Dietitians of Canada and the BC Dietitians Network, I am committed to continuing education to provide you with the most up to date and reliable source of nutrition information. I am a certified Craving Change facilitator and registered with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
